The first cogent description of the Serbian Hound dates from 1905 and the first standard was published in 1924 under the name Balkan Hound, although the F.C.I. only recognized the breed in 1940. After the breakup of Yugoslavia, the name of this energetic medium-sized dog, which is teeming with character, was changed to Serbian Hound.
