While English Toy Terriers may be confused with German Pinschers, they are actually said to be descended from Manchester Terriers and Italian Greyhounds, which give them their elegance.Throughout the 20th century breeders worked on the margins of official dog fancy, but they eventually managed to get the breed recognized by the Kennel Club in 1962.Well proportioned, elegant and compact, English Toy Terriers have a distinctive glossy coat and pure lines. They are most commonly used as companion and toy dogs, but at bottom they are terriers, particularly renowned as champion ratters.

Did you know ?

These short-haired terriers are descended from Manchester Terriers, also one of the presumed ancestors of Dobermans, although it hails from farther west, the port of Liverpool.
